Hakea (pron. hei-kia) is a native Australian flower species.
Hakea Studio is a minimal impact floral design studio based in the Southern Highlands, NSW.
Founded by Sam, we are a team of experienced florists dedicated to creating intentional and luxurious floral designs that highlight nature’s raw and honest beauty for weddings, events and editorials.
Our philosophy
Our philosophy is simple: sustainability conscious, slow floristry. That means no floral foam, no artificial manipulation, and no bleached or preserved flowers. Instead, we source locally grown blooms from farmers who share our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.
OUR JOURNEY
Sam's journey with flowers began over a decade ago, starting as an apprentice and falling in love with the simplicity of farm-fresh flowers. Working across various landscapes, including Melbourne, Scotland and London, she explored all aspects and styles of floristry. Working on one particular wedding in the Scottish Highlands, she was introduced to foam free methods for large scale installations whilst creating this wild, textural, organic structure and never looked back!
Sam’s passion for sustainable practices and natural aesthetic led her to explore permaculture and work in nurseries, deepening her understanding of plants and their connection to the environment.

Now, she is committed to creating floristry that embraces all things botanical and celebrates all the weird and wonderful quirks nature has to offer.
